Implementation of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) prevention devices can be a complex process with multiple factors affecting the overall security effectiveness of the device. The following factors should be considered over the course of the useful life of the device:

  • What web applications and web services will the DDoS protect?
  • Defensive capabilities in deployment use cases (attack mitigation)
  • Baseline impact (existing network traffic is not affected)
  • Device stability and reliability
