VMware just made an interesting $1.54 billion acquisition. It bought a company, AirWatch, whose main product offering VMware admits is “table stakes” in the evolving enterprise mobility management market. This is a sure sign that VMware is playing catch-up, but the deal also makes it clear that VMware understands the critical importance to its traditional data center and cloud offerings of enabling secure delivery of content to mobile devices.
